April 15 from 2 pm-4 pm CT:
If you need a passive primer, PHIUS Associate Director Lisa White will bring you up to speed.
Passive building comprises a set of design principles used to attain a quantifiable and rigorous level of energy efficiency and conservation. Several core principles focus on the envelope — achieving thermal and radiation control through continuous insulation, reduced thermal bridging, and optimized solar gain. Air control is achieved through building enclosure air-tightness combined with balanced ventilation.
The last core principle is minimized mechanical systems, which is a result of applying passive building strategies to reduce space conditioning loads. This workshop will cover the basics of passive building, the PHIUS passive building standard, certification, and provide a special emphasis on minimized mechanical system components for passive buildings.
